What flooring really costs

Straight numbers from a shop that quotes them every day. Ranges below are typical for Twin Cities-area homes — your free estimate turns them into a firm price.

Ranges reflect typical residential projects we see; premium products, patterns, and subfloor repairs can land outside them. Your firm number comes from a free in-home measure.

What moves the price

The product tier. Within any category, wear layer, core, veneer thickness, and brand move materials cost more than anything else — it’s where “name brands for less” matters most.

Subfloor condition. Flat, dry, and sound installs fast. Leveling compound, moisture mitigation, or tear-out of old glued floors adds real labor — we’ll flag it at the measure, never on the invoice.

Layout complexity. Herringbone, diagonals, stairs, and lots of small rooms take more time and waste allowance than one big rectangle.

What’s being removed. Carpet comes up fast; tile on mortar doesn’t. Disposal is part of the quote so there are no surprises.

Where to save (and where not to)

Save by choosing a mid-tier product in a busy category — the middle of the LVP market is outstanding right now — and by clearing rooms yourself before install day. Don’t save on installation quality or waterproofing in wet rooms; redoing a floor costs more than doing it right. Our own crews install everything we sell, and we stand behind the work.
